Rats/Mice

I’m putting rats and mice into the same category because it is sometimes hard to tell them apart. Rats can cause a lot of damage. They can chew holes through wood and thin metal to enter a house. Holes that can be used by other animals like snakes to enter your house as well. They are known to be spoilers meaning that they can make way to where you store food and chew holes into many containers of your food. They also urinate and defecate all over the place like where you keep your food. There are many diseases associated with rats. Probably the worst can be fatal is Hantavirus. This disease can be spread by: inhaling dust that is contaminated with rat urine or feces, direct contact with urine or feces, and possibly by a rat bite. Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that can be transmitted by coming into contact with infected water. Rat-bite Fever can be transmitted by a bite, scratch or by contact with a dead rat. Salmonellosis is a disease that can be caused by consuming food or water that has been contaminated by rat feces. Plague can be carried by rats and transmitted by fleas.
